 Beat The Odds

Over 250,000 Americans are living with the permanent consequences of spinal cord injury (SCI), with 11,000 new cases reported each year.

More than 70 percent of people with disabilities are unemployed because of an inability to balance health insurance needs with the conditions placed upon them by government programs. Limited opportunities to work and strict regulations against accruing substantial savings have kept people with disabilities far below the poverty line for decades, but the voice of change is whispering in the wind.

People with SCI must forge their own way if they choose to be more than others predict they can be, including the little voice of insecurity within us all.

It takes courage to stand up against that which is unfair or frightening, but you can make a difference if you want it badly enough. I have dedicated my life to challenging society's definition of "disability" and the negative stereotypes associated with that word, and my hard work has paid off far more than I ever dreamed it could.

Check out the Helpful Links page for information about how you can beat the odds and get to work!
